Use this guide alongside the official service
Read the steps here first and keep the relevant documents or questions ready. Outside websites open in a new tab, so this guide stays here. To continue, return to the Pension Path tab or close the new tab.
If online steps are difficult, find phone, paper or in-person help.
Check the local transport scheme
Open your state or territory page for current public-transport instructions. You may need a particular concession pass, smartcard or registration rather than simply showing a Centrelink card.
A state Seniors Card can have residence and paid-work conditions. A business-discount alternative may not carry the same transport benefits. Interstate recognition has its own limits.
For example, NSW Senior Savers Card does not provide the same Gold Opal route as NSW Seniors Card. ACT guidance should use current MyWay+ instructions rather than old MyWay documents.
Other transport help
Taxi subsidies, community transport and patient-travel programs have separate eligibility, bookings and service conditions. A pension alone does not establish access to all of them.
If you need transport for treatment or cannot use ordinary public transport, ask the local program or treating service about the appropriate route. Ambulance, booked patient transport and travel subsidies are different services.
Use a discount safely
- Identify the exact card and travel or purchase you want help with.
- Check the official local scheme or participating business before booking.
- Ask about application, expiry, interstate recognition and any remaining fare or fee.
- Keep card details current and verify an offer's conditions.
Commercial offers are optional
A Seniors Card directory can list business discounts. These are commercial offers rather than government payments or a recommendation to buy.
Check ordinary prices, exclusions and membership charges. You do not need to buy a product to establish pension eligibility.
If online registration is difficult
Ask the transport provider or card program for phone or in-person help. Tell them about accessibility requirements before travelling so they can explain available assistance.
