Support in Queensland

Queensland's card and service rules are specific to each scheme. A CSHC can be accepted for public dental care while being excluded from the electricity and gas rebate scheme. For ambulance care outside Queensland, your principal residence and proof from the service date matter. Keep your exact card, account details and residence evidence ready, and use the Homeless Hotline if housing is urgent.

Keep your place while checking support

For each program below, check who it is for and follow the preparation steps before opening its official link. Outside websites open in a new tab. Return to the Pension Path tab, or close the new tab, to continue with the other support here.

Check your card and the program

A Pensioner Concession Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Low Income Health Care Card and state Seniors Card have different rules. A pension approval does not enrol you in every concession.

Understand the cards

Cards

Queensland Seniors Card applications

Queensland has Seniors Card and business-discount options with different benefits. Use the newer application guidance to check age, residence and paid-work conditions rather than an older card summary.

Who it is for: Queensland residents seeking a state card, including people still doing some paid work.

  • The usual Seniors Card route is age 65 or over with less than 35 paid hours a week.
  • Applicants aged 60 to 64 additionally need a listed concession card.
  • Residence conditions and the benefits of each card still apply separately from pension eligibility.

What to do

  1. Read the current application rules and identify your card route.
  2. Gather the identity and residence details required by the form.
  3. Apply through the official online, phone, post or in-person option; ask for help if you cannot use the online form.

Bills and household costs

Queensland electricity and gas rebates

These rebates use a particular accepted-card list. Queensland Seniors Card can provide a route, but CSHC is excluded. Other bills, water and council rates have separate schemes.

Who it is for: People responsible for eligible Queensland residential electricity or gas accounts.

  • Health Care Card access on this page is electricity-only.
  • Principal residence, account-holder and one-rebate conditions matter.
  • Metered parks, retirement villages and other on-supply arrangements can need a different process.

What to do

  1. Check your card against the energy rebate page.
  2. Ask the retailer or on-supplier how to register the concession and what evidence is needed.
  3. Use the concessions hub to check water, rates and hardship routes separately, then check whether the next bill reflects the approved discount.

Transport

Queensland Seniors Card transport benefits

A Queensland Seniors Card and a business-discount card are not the same travel entitlement. Check the official benefit list and the operator's ticketing rules before relying on a discount.

Who it is for: Older Queensland residents arranging local travel or checking interstate concession recognition.

  • Different cards carry different government benefits.
  • The operator decides which ticket, proof or registration is required.
  • Business discounts do not automatically establish a public transport concession.

What to do

  1. Find transport benefits under the relevant card type.
  2. Follow the linked operator instructions for your journey and ticket.
  3. Check interstate acceptance before departure and carry the requested concession evidence.

Public dental

Queensland public dental services

Queensland's adult public dental page lists Centrelink or DVA PCC, HCC, CSHC and Queensland Seniors Card pathways, including eligible dependants. The clinic checks residence and clinical needs.

Who it is for: Residents seeking public dental care and people checking a card that another scheme does not accept.

  • The current service page lists accepted cards; do not substitute another state's rules.
  • Eligible public treatment is described as free, but travel to the clinic remains your expense.
  • Appointments, treatment scope and urgency are determined by the public dental service.

What to do

  1. Use the official page to find your public dental service.
  2. Have the accepted current card and requested residence or dependant information available.
  3. Describe symptoms and ask how urgent and routine care are arranged before making private-treatment assumptions.

Ambulance

Queensland ambulance and interstate invoices

Queensland residents have an ambulance pathway that is based on residence rather than merely holding a Seniors Card. Interstate instructions specifically address emergency pre-hospital treatment and transport.

Who it is for: People travelling outside Queensland or receiving an interstate ambulance account.

  • Principal Queensland residence and eligible dependant rules need checking.
  • Interstate evidence must establish residence on the service date; ordinary utility bills are not accepted proof.
  • Coverage does not automatically include repatriation home; visitors to Queensland may be charged.

What to do

  1. Check the Queensland Ambulance Service scope before travel.
  2. If invoiced interstate, send the account and accepted residence evidence to QAS Interstate Accounts.
  3. Ask QAS about any excluded service or return transport; do not delay calling 000 for an emergency.

Housing and urgent help

Queensland housing assistance applications

Start with a Housing Service Centre rather than assuming pension or card approval establishes social housing eligibility. Staff assess circumstances and can help complete and witness the application.

Who it is for: Households with housing needs that they cannot resolve through available alternatives.

  • Identity, household income, assets and housing-need evidence are required.
  • Health, disability and safety circumstances can need supporting documents.
  • Public housing prioritises eligible people in highest need; acceptance does not promise an immediate home.

What to do

  1. Contact the nearest Housing Service Centre by phone or in person.
  2. Gather the requested household, medical and housing evidence with staff assistance.
  3. Keep contact and circumstances updated while waiting; use the Homeless Hotline for urgent housing risk.

Urgent housing and support

Call 000 if someone is in immediate danger. A housing application is not an immediate shelter booking.

Homeless Hotline

Queensland Government's route for emergency housing or risk of homelessness. The service assesses and refers; a call does not guarantee an available bed.
